The Medical Library is open to Baptist Hospital medical and clinical staff, administrators, employee partners, and Baptist affiliated hospitals and their staffs.

The Baptist Medical Library offers a variety of services. The library supplies knowledge-based information to health care professionals, so they can make evidence based diagnosis and treatment decisions to provide the highest level of patient care.  Information is provided for Baptist personnel who need it to perform their work.  Employees attending educational programs may take advantage of the library’s resources to conduct their own research.

All Baptist patients, and their families, who have been in the care of Baptist Hospital within the last six months are welcome to use the library’s resources at no charge. We provide journals, books and computer resources to help you answer your health-related questions.  Because every person and situation is unique, the general information we provide cannot substitute for the diagnosis and medical advice of your doctor. A Baptist physician who has examined you and knows your medical history is the best person to provide that information.

The Baptist Medical Library recently received an award from the National Network of Libraries of Medicine to fund a unique project in support of consumers who wish to advocate for their own health.  A Visual Approach to Introducing MedlinePlus®  tutorials to Low Literacy, Low Income Patients is a kiosk-based portal to a web site which features  tutorials and other resources that promote healthy living.  Users can look up their medications or herbal supplements in English or Spanish.  The list of 98 topics were chosed by STHS physicians from the most frequently diagnosed medical conditions.  The interactive videos use animation, illustrations, and text to explain diseases, treatment, and medical procedures in every day language.  The user can move forward at his own pace, and can either read the material or listen to the video’s narrator.
